Ekienea, led by Iberdrola España, has obtained prior administrative authorization from the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge to build a 125 MW photovoltaic solar park in Armiñón, Álava. The project is promoted by Ekienea, a company formed by Iberdrola España (75%), the Basque Government through the Basque Energy Agency (18%), Krean of Mondragón Corporation (5%), and the Álava Provincial Council (2%) through Enargi. It is planned as the largest photovoltaic plant in the Basque Country. The total planned investment amounts to €90 million (~$ 105.24 million) and the developers estimate up to 300 jobs during peak construction periods. The project extends over about 200 hectares, with half occupied by the photovoltaic plant and the remaining land reserved for environmental compensation. The facility is designed to support industrial self-consumption and produce about 155 GWh per year. It is also framed within the Basque Energy Transition and Climate Change Law and the Industry-Euskadi 2030 Plan, with commissioning planned for 2027.
