Iberdrola España, a global power producer, has begun construction of its first two photovoltaic plants in the Valencian Community, eastern Spain. The projects involved a total investment of €252 million and a combined capacity of 366 MW. The Cofrentes I plant of 184 MW and the Ayora 1 plant of 182 MW were located in the province of Valencia. The facilities were expected to generate over 650,000 MWh of electricity annually, supplying around 200,000 homes. The projects included measures to support biodiversity, habitat management and recovery of nearby abandoned land. Agroforestry perimeter plantations were planned to integrate the plants into the landscape. These actions were implemented under Iberdrola’s Convive Programme.
