Morocco-based GPM Holding SA has signed an investment agreement with Morocco’s investment minister to develop the country’s first green polysilicon unit in Tan-Tan. The project is located in the El Ouatia industrial zone and has an investment cost of MAD 8 billion (~$ 861.02 million). It is aligned with national directives promoting productive investment and regional development. The unit is planned to produce 30,000 tons of polysilicon each year. About 85 percent of this output is expected to be exported. The facility is projected to create 1,500 direct jobs and over 2,000 indirect jobs. The project has relevance for Morocco’s renewable-energy ambitions because polysilicon supports local solar-component manufacturing. The development has enhanced the country’s broader industrial value-chain expansion.
