UAE based Emirates Water and Electricity Company announced that the Al Ajban Solar PV Independent Power Plant project had installed its first solar panel, marking the start of main construction works. The 1.5 GW project was awarded in April 2024 to a consortium comprising Masdar, EDF East and Korea Western Power Company. The EPC contract was awarded in July 2024 to Huadong Engineering Corporation, a subsidiary of Power Construction Corporation of China. Once completed, the facility will deploy around three million photovoltaic panels and generate electricity to supply about 160,000 homes across the UAE. The project is expected to prevent more than 2.4 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
EWEC 1.5 GW solar IPP construction begins in Abu Dhabi
