Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority commenced construction of the Al Dur Solar Power Plant, a large-scale project comprising about 135,000 solar panels, in the presence of Shaikh Khalid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. The project was implemented by the Authority and was scheduled for completion by Q3 next year. It formed part of initiatives supporting the kingdom’s energy transition pathway. The plant was designed as a centralized solar facility connected directly to the national electricity grid. It contributed to the National Renewable Energy Plan target of increasing the renewable share to 20 % by 2035. The project supported grid reliability, encouraged private sector participation. It also aimed to reduce reliance on conventional fuels and support emissions reduction measures aligned with Bahrain’s carbon neutrality objective for 2060.
