Lisbon headquartered EDP, a global energy company, has commissioned the Pracana hybrid complex in central Portugal, marking its first project combining hydropower and onshore solar. The site integrates 48 MW of onshore solar capacity with 41 MW of hydropower from the existing Pracana dam, delivering a combined installed capacity of 89 MW. The hybrid plant generates around 140 GWh of electricity annually and supplies approximately 51,800 households. It avoids about 35,000 tons of CO₂ each year. By combining complementary generation sources at a single location, the project uses existing grid infrastructure, supports system stability and enables coordinated renewable power generation.
