Switzerlandbased Eberhard Bau AG has signed a long-term offtake agreement with Synhelion for solar diesel. Starting in 2027, Eberhard will purchase renewable diesel to reduce COâ‚‚ emissions from construction machinery. Synhelion’s renewable fuels are produced using renewable energy and are compatible with existing diesel engines. The agreement marked Synhelion’s first use of renewable synthetic fuels in the construction sector, alongside aviation, shipping, and road transport. Construction machinery operates under demanding conditions and is difficult to electrify due to high power requirements. In 2024, Synhelion commissioned the DAWN industrial solar fuels plant in Germany and is preparing its first commercial plant scheduled to start operations in 2027. The fuels reduce net COâ‚‚ emissions by up to 100% compared to fossil fuels and require no engine modifications. Other companies, including Swiss International Air Lines, Pilatus Aircraft, Zurich Airport, AMAG Group and Lake Lucerne Navigation Company, have also signed offtake agreements with Synhelion.
