Downing Renewable Developments, a subsidiary of Downing, has announced an agreement to develop and build a 40 MW solar farm. The company will also operate the facility for Kao Data’s data centre campus in Harlow. The Green Data Solar Farm was expected to deliver up to 40 MW of power through a private-wire link, making it one of the first ground-mounted solar projects to directly supply a UK colocation facility.Kao Data planned to buy the electricity through a long-term PPA to support its 2030 net-zero goal. The partnership began as UK data centres were dealing with high energy costs, long grid delays and growing power needs. Downing noted its broader renewable-energy pipeline, while Kao Data said the collaboration helped address energy availability and pricing pressures for critical digital operations.
