Germany’s solar association BSW Solar has reported a 28% decline in private rooftop PV system sales during 2025 when compared to the CY 2024. According to the Federal Network Agency data, residential solar installations grew from 1.7 million in early 2020, to 4.1 million deployments by the end of 2025. This expansion paralleled increases in battery storage, heat pumps, and electric vehicles that enhanced load management efficiency. HTW Berlin’s study found that smart storage integration reduces feed-in requirements to 60% of installed peak power, lowering grid expansion needs. BSW Solar noted that eight out of ten new systems now include batteries, though declining rates challenge ongoing electrification efforts. BSW Solar head Carsten Körnig described these trends as a setback for Germany’s energy transition.
