ArcelorMittal, a Luxembourg-based global steel producer, has expanded its India renewable portfolio through solar-led projects totaling 1 GW of capacity. According to the company, these additions have doubled renewable capacity in India to 2 GW and increased global capacity to 3.3 GW. The company has stated that the generated solar electricity is being supplied to AMNS India, its 60/40 joint venture with Nippon Steel, supporting steelmaking operations. Total capital expenditure was estimated at $ 0.9 billion, with solar forming the dominant share of planned capacity. ArcelorMittal has said that the portfolio includes a 36 MW solar project in Amaravati, Maharashtra, delivering annual COâ‚‚ savings of 0.04 million tonnes by H1 2027. The company has also confirmed a 400 MW solar project with battery storage in Bikaner, Rajasthan, saving 0.65 million tonnes annually, and a 300 MW solar component within the Bachau, Gujarat hybrid project, contributing 0.9 million tonnes of annual COâ‚‚ reductions, both targeted for H1 2028.
