Madagascar based Afripower has begun installing a 40 MW solar power plant in Moramanga on the Antananarivo Interconnected Network. The development followed Afripower’s takeover of operations and maintenance of the existing 40 MW HFO plant in 2022. After site upgrades, the HFO facility increased effective output from 5 MW to the full 40 MW injected into the grid. The solar project, planned in phases, included an initial 15 MW scheduled for completion in early 2026. Once fully operational, the solar facility is expected to reduce dependence on imported fuel, lower generation costs, and supply electricity to the national grid at competitive tariffs.
