ABB, a global technology firm, has expanded its solar capabilities through the acquisition of Gamesa Electric’s power electronics business in Spain. The portfolio includes utility-scale solar inverters, industrial BESS systems and wind converters for DFIG turbines. The deal was first announced in December 2024 and reported €145 million (~$ 168.78 million) in revenue for fiscal 2025. ABB has added about 400 employees across India, China, the United States and Australia. Two converter factories in Madrid and Valencia were also included. ABB has entered a supply and services agreement with Siemens Gamesa for continued support. The acquisition has increased ABB’s serviceable wind converter base by about 46 GW. Gamesa Electric has over 45 years of power-electronics experience. The IEA has projected renewable generation to reach 16,200 TWh by 2030 with solar leading the rise.
