Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Kamel Al-Wazir, recently met with UNIDO’s (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) Regional Representative, Patrick Gilabert, to discuss ongoing renewable energy projects. The 23 projects, funded by $58 million from the European Union, Japan, Switzerland, and Italy, focus on energy efficiency, green initiatives, and sustainable development. Egypt’s Ministry of Industry is prioritizing local manufacturing of solar and wind energy components to reduce import dependency and meet energy demands. The ministry aims to strengthen technical cooperation with UNIDO in renewable energy and water treatment, with the goal of attracting foreign investment to boost exports. Notably, initiatives like the Green City project and Inclusive Green Growth project support small and medium-sized enterprises in solar energy and organic fertilizer production.
