D.E. Shaw Renewable Investments (DESRI), and El Paso Electric (EPE), both US-based firms, have announced the start of construction for the Carne Solar and Storage project in New Mexico. Carne, which will feature a 130 MWAC solar array and 260 MWh of storage, is DESRI’s second project in Luna County, following Alta Luna. According to DESRI, Carne will advance EPE’s clean energy goals, targeting 80% clean energy by 2035 and 100% by 2045. The facility, slated for commercial operation in 2025, is expected to power approximately 37,600 homes annually. Supported by a 20-year PPA with EPE, the project also involves Galehead Development and Lacuna Sustainable Investments. SOLV Energy, also US-based, will manage EPC and O&M of the project. The project is expected to create over 300 jobs and provide local workforce training.
