US-based Derive Energy, a clean energy producer and Tri-State announced the 140 MW Spanish Peaks Solar projects in Las Animas County, Colorado. The facility began commercial operations on December 26. Acquired from JUWI in January 2024, the projects marked Deriva’s sixth utility-scale renewable project in Colorado. Construction began in late 2023, creating over 230 jobs. The projects supply power to Tri-State’s members under long-term agreements and generate tax revenue for local services, including schools and emergency districts. Producing 373,000 MWh of energy annually, they are supported by a $2.5 billion USDA New ERA Program award. These projects are part of Tri-State’s 595 MW solar additions for 2024-2025, enhancing rural energy reliability and supporting local economies.
