US-headquartered Deriva Energy, in partnership with Tri-State Generation, launched the 140 MW Spanish Peaks Solar project in Las Animas County, Colorado. The facility became operational on December 26, 2024. It was developed by JUWI Inc. and constructed by JSI Construction Group. The project created over 230 construction jobs and now employs nine full-time workers. It generates 373,000 MWh annually under long-term energy agreements. It also supports local tax revenue for schools, emergency services, and conservation efforts. This is Deriva Energy’s sixth renewable project in Colorado. It contributes to Tri-State’s goal of achieving 50% renewable energy use by 2025. The initiative is backed by $2.5 billion in USDA financing.
