Sungrow, a China-based supplier of PV inverters, has partnered with WBHO, a South Africa-based construction firm, to commission a 500 MW PV project in Welkom. According to NOA Group, a South Africa-based clean energy investor and project owner, this is the region’s largest installation under a wheeling PPA with a private off-taker. The project includes two sites - Khauta West and Khauta South - equipped with 712,000 bifacial modules mounted on single-axis trackers for higher energy yield. Sungrow has supplied its 1+X modular inverters and string combiner boxes to enable system scalability, performance monitoring, and protection. NOA Group has confirmed that this marks its first utility-scale solar investment designed to support corporate power distribution. Sungrow said that the collaboration has strengthened its infrastructure presence and project support footprint across the African renewable energy market. Recently, Sungrow’s SG350HX inverters were also deployed at a 70 Mp solar park in Finland.
