National Energy Administration reported that utility-scale solar power capacity in China reached over 880 GW in 2024. China had more utility-scale solar than any other country. The 277 GW installed in 2024 alone was more than twice the 121 GW installed in the United States by the end of 2024. Over 720 GW of solar projects were in development: about 250 GW under construction, nearly 300 GW in pre-construction, and 177 GW announced, according to the Global Solar Power Tracker. Some of the largest projects were in Inner Mongolia, including the Great Solar Wall, scheduled for completion by 2030 with 100 GW capacity spanning 250 miles by 3 miles. Two parts, the Kubuqi Desert North and South Megabases, were in pre-construction. Ordos Desert Control and Xinjiang-Sichuan solar farms were also announced at 8.5 GW each.
