China-headquartered JA Solar has launched DesertBlue, a PV module for desert and semi-arid regions. The module is designed to withstand dust, sand, heat, and strong winds. It delivers up to 650 W with 24% efficiency and operates up to 5 °C cooler. Features include an anti-dust nanocoating that reduces transmittance loss by 32% and extends life by five years. Sandstorm resilience limits power loss by 14%, while reinforced frames endure heavy loads. Thermal stability allows higher output at extreme temperatures. Field projects showed a 4.5% energy gain and reduced cleaning costs. TÜV Rheinlandawarded the first “Desert Module” certification after durability tests. TÜV SÜD confirmed sand resistance across 11,000 robotic cleaning cycles with minimal power loss. Leading institutes, EPC firms, and certification bodies attended the launch event in Beijing.
