JA Solar, a Chinese maker of high-efficiency PV modules, is helping supply state-of-the-art solar panels for Gambia's first utility-scale solar project of 23 MW Jambur Solar Plant. The project was officially commissioned to the national grid in 2024, a key event in Gambia's renewable energy transition, according to the company. The installation will cover electricity for over more than 18,500 homes while providing 10% of Gambia's annual electricity demand. Funded by the EU and the European Investment Bank, this facility has increased Gambia's renewable energy generation by 20%. According to JA Solar, the project has improved access to energy, improved grid stability and contributed to Gambia's broader economic development objectives through the Jambur Solar Plant.
