Changa Energy, a South Africa-based company, has launched a 1 MW solar plant at BT Industrial Group’s Benoni site. According to Changa Energy, this project was developed in collaboration with South Africa-based BT Industrial Group, Nuvo Africa, and Switzerland-based Candi Solar. The system comprises 1,604 panels and seven grid-type inverters, designed to meet BT Industrial Group's full operational energy needs. The excess electricity generated will be fed back to the grid, creating additional savings. BT Industrial Group, addressing South Africa’s energy crisis, noted that rising electricity costs have increased by 19% annually over the past four years, reducing its productivity by 25%. The new solar plant is expected to stabilize costs and ensure uninterrupted operations amid Eskom's proposed 40% rate increase.
