A developers and operators (IRPP) of wind and solar farms, wpd solar France has started construction of the 140.6 MW Marcy solar park in Nièvre, central France. The 187-hectare facility is designed to supply power to around 78,800 residents. The Grid operator RTE began connection works in 2024, while wpd completed the site’s substation before construction began. The project was developed with Cryo, and is expected to be completed in about 15 months with power generation planned for fall 2026. Covering about 632 hectares, the site integrates sheep grazing under panels and cattle farming nearby to support local agriculture. Biodiversity measures include preserving wetlands, conserving forest areas and creating wildlife corridors. The project represents one of France’s largest solar developments and demonstrates how renewable generation can coexist with agricultural and environmental conservation efforts.
