Belgium based Virya Energy NV has announced the acceleration of its expansion in Poland through a partnership with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The agreement covers the acquisition and development of Optima Wind’s PV, BESS, and onshore wind portfolio. The portfolio includes a 722 MW Sidlowo solar project, set to begin construction in the coming weeks. It is planned as Poland’s largest PV farm and will connect to PSE’s 400 kV grid. Once operational, the initial assets are expected to power around 400,000 households annually and avoid nearly 500,000 tons of CO₂ each year. Virya is planning to exceed 1 GW of operational capacity in Poland within five years, contributing to its global target of at least 4.3 GW by 2034.
