Sweden-based Vattenfall has inaugurated Germany’s Agri-PV project in Tützpatz, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The 76 MW solar farm spans around 93 hectares and integrates power generation with arable farming and animal husbandry. Built without subsidies, the site features 146,000 solar modules and tracker systems allowing cultivation between rows. A long-term power purchase agreement was signed with Power and Air Condition Solution Management GmbH (PASM), a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG, which will procure the entire output for ten years. The facility generates electricity equal to the annual demand of about 4,600 mobile phone sites. The site includes six mobile chicken coops, each holding up to 2,500 birds. Vattenfall said the project showed that farming and solar energy can work together and plans to build more Agri-PV parks in Germany.
