Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL) and Coal India Ltd (CIL) have partnered to build a 500 MW solar power plant in Jalaun. The project is costing about INR 2,500 crore (~$ 281.28 million), has been given 22 acres of land by the state government. It is expected to start operation in 18 to 24 months and Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) will buy the electricity at a regulated tariff. UPRVUNL will hold 49 % of the venture, while CIL will own 51%. The project supports the state’s Solar Energy Policy 2022, which aims to expand solar capacity by 2027. UPRVUNL has also planned another 300 MW solar project in Bundelkhand with NTPC’s Green Energy Ltd after resolving land-related delays.
