US-headquartered ULC Technologies developed robotic solutions for PV solar module installation in partnership with Rosendin. The system includes a Panel Setting Robot and two Panel Carrier Robots, designed to assist human operators on large solar projects by transporting and positioning solar panels. Field trials showed robots could install a panel in under a minute, allowing a two-person crew to install 600 panels in a ten-hour shift. Built to withstand high temperatures and rough terrains like mud and uneven ground, robots help reduce physical strain and address labor shortages in remote areas. Large solar farms require installation of over a million panels, each weighing 80-100 lbs, making manual labor strenuous. The project moved from concept to field trials in 18 months, demonstrating improved efficiency and worker safety in utility-scale solar construction.
