The UK government has announced that solar panels will be mandatory for most new homes. This announcement comes alongside the Future Homes Standard, due for release in autumn 2025. The new regulations are designed to cut household energy bills and promote rooftop solar installations. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband announced that solar panels help families save money and should be standard. Housing and Planning Minister Matthew Pennycook announced plans to build 1.5 million energy-efficient homes. Additional rule changes have eased heat pump installations within one metre of property boundaries. This removed a major barrier, as 34% of orders were affected by planning rules. The Boiler Upgrade Scheme also saw a 73% rise in applications in early 2025. Households now receive GBP 7,500 (~$ 10292) toward heat pump costs.
