Japan-based TOYO Co., Ltd, a solar solutions company, has announced a 2 GW expansion of its solar cell capacity at its Ethiopia facility. This expands upon the completion of its 2 GW Phase 1 site. The expansion aimed to meet global demand for its solar cell products. Phase 1 construction had concluded, with equipment installation and trial runs underway, and production scheduled for early Q2 2025. The additional 2 GW capacity was set to begin construction in April 2025 and complete by July, with operations starting in August. The company estimated an investment of $47 million and planned to lease a 28,000 m² facility in Hawassa adjacent to Phase 1. Existing infrastructure would support a shortened timeline.
