SunCable and the Northern Land Council have finalised a multi-million-dollar land use agreement for a planned large-scale solar farm at Powell Creek Station. The process has began in 2019 when SunCable first approached the council and the preferred land area was identified in 2022. Negotiations were held over three years with more than 200 Traditional Owners. The Northern Land Council has undertaken over 70 consultations across several Northern Territory communities to bring families together. The agreement is designed to deliver jobs, training pathways and local business activity in a remote region. It also includes environmental protections and cultural heritage measures to ensure knowledge and land connections are preserved. The deal is presented as a partnership that has enabled Traditional Owners to shape project outcomes while remaining on country.
