Saskatchewan Indigenous Investment Finance Corporation (SIIFC), a Canada-based provincial entity supporting Indigenous ventures, has announced a $7 million loan guarantee for the 32 MW Wicehtowak Solar Project. The $82 million facility is located near K+S Potash Canada’s Bethune mine in Treaty 4 territory and is contracted under a 30-year PPA. George Gordon Developments, owned by George Gordon First Nation and based in Saskatchewan, has indicated that the project would enhance long-term economic stability of the community. SIIFC has indicated that around 20 full-time positions were expected when under construction, to support local employment within the area. Upon operation, the plant is expected to provide enough electricity for over 5,600 Canadian homes every year. Bank of Montreal has also been engaged in financing deals. The Saskatchewan Government officially released the notice on August 26, 2025, affirming information of the project and financing assistance.
