China-based Shanghai Electric, a multinational power generation and electrical equipment manufacturing company, has entered into an agreement with Masdar for the 2 GW Al Sadawi Solar PV project in Saudi Arabia. The project is part of Round 5 of the National Renewable Energy Programme. Once complete, it will be the Shanghai Electric’s largest PV EPC project. In November, a Masdar-led consortium with GD Power and Kepco was awarded the Al Sadawi IPP project in the Sadawi Region. The power purchase agreement was signed with Saudi Power Procurement Company on a build, own, and operate basis. The project is expected to begin commercial operations in Q2 2027.
