China-headquartered Shanghai Electric has completed the 500 MW Oman Manah-1 Solar IPP Project, which began operations in August 2025 after final handover and assessments. The plant was designed to generate 1.5 billion kWh of electricity annually and reduce CO₂ emissions by 780,000 tons, equal to removing 170,000 cars from the roads. Shanghai Electric partnered with EDF to address policy and technical requirements, using a split-team approach with Chinese engineers managing solar field design and Omani teams leading substation work. Construction was divided into 11 sections, reducing timelines by 22%, with 4 million accident-free hours recorded. The project finished 21 days ahead of schedule, achieving 100% grid success. It also increased local employment, with 90% of operations staff hired locally and technical training integrated into Oman's vocational system.
