Egypt’s economic development body, General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE), has initiated a $200 million solar components complex in Ain Sokhna. The project is developed by China’s Sunrev Solar under TEDA–Egypt. It covers 200,000 square meters and will be built in two phases. The first phase has a $90 million investment for 2 GW solar cell and module factories. The second phase, worth $110 million, expands production to silicon ingots, wafers, cells, and modules. SCZONE confirmed the project will create 1,800 direct jobs and thousands of indirect roles. Operations are scheduled for early 2026. Operations are expected to begin in early 2026. Sokhna was chosen for its location and facilities.Earlier this year, SCZONE and Elite Solar began a 2 GW solar project in Sokhna, further expanding the region’s role in solar manufacturing.
