Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), Riyadh-based state-owned power firm, has signed two power purchase agreements (PPAs) worth SAR 14.23 billion (~$3.8 billion) with Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC), as per SEC stated in filings to the Saudi stock exchange. The deals integrates combined generation capacity of 3,956 MW through solar facilities and combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) facilities. A single deal was made with France-based EDF Power Solutions International for the 600 MW Samtah solar PV scheme in southwestern Saudi Arabia, in which SEC will have 50.01%. SEC also inked 21-year PPAs amounting to SAR 12.83 billion (~ $3.4 billion) for two CCGT facilities in Riyadh—PP13 and PP14—each with a capacity to generate 1,678 MW.
