Red Rocket, an Independent Power Producers (IPPs) in Africa, has reached financial close for the 331 MW Tournee Solar Park in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The project secured a 20-year PPA with Discovery Green and will use about 463,000 bifacial modules on single-axis trackers, connected through a 132 kV overhead line. It was financed by Absa Bank, Standard Bank, and the Development Bank of Southern Africa, with Red Rocket Opportunity Trust as the BEE partner. Once operational in 2027, it was expected to generate 720 million kWh annually, equivalent to powering 224,000 homes, and avoid 709,200 tonnes of COâ‚‚e each year. Tournee Solar Park was set to become South Africa’s second-largest solar PV project, joining Red Rocket’s portfolio alongside Overberg Wind Farm Phase Two and Virginia Solar Park.
