QatarEnergy, formerly Qatar Petroleum, has signed an agreement with Samsung C&T to build a 2 GW solar power plant in Dukhan. The site is 80 kilometers west of Doha. The project will be developed in two phases, with 1 GW planned to start by late 2028 and the other full 2 GW expected by mid-2029. Once completed, the plant will double Qatar’s solar capacity and could supply up to 30% of the country’s peak electricity demand. It is also expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 4.7 million tons each year. The facility is designed to use solar trackers and advanced inverters capable of operating in high-temperature conditions. The signing ceremony in Doha was attended by QatarEnergy, Samsung C&T, and Kahramaa executives, along with Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs.
