QatarEnergy, a global provider of LNG, has inaugurated the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed solar PV power plants in Qatar with a combined capacity of 875 MW. This has doubled Qatar’s solar energy production to 1.675 GW. The plants are expected to cut carbon dioxide emissions by 4.7 million tons annually. They will contribute 15% of Qatar’s peak electricity demand. This share is expected to rise to 30% after the Dukhan solar project. Minister Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said that the projects support the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030. He added that they help QatarEnergy aim for more than 4,000 MW of renewable energy by 2030. Following its 1.2 GW solar agreement with TotalEnergies in Iraq, QatarEnergy expanded its renewable footprint with the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed solar projects in Qatar.
