ORLEN Lietuva, a subsidiary of ORLEN S.A., has nearly completed its first renewable energy plant at the Mažeikiai refinery. The photovoltaic facility has 42.2 MW installed capacity and is expected to generate 45 GWh annually. Covering 600,000 square meters, it includes four sections with about 68,000 bifacial modules of 620 Wp each. These panels absorb sunlight from both sides and deliver up to 30% higher output than monofacial modules. Most of the installation work was finished, while grid integration and electrical infrastructure were in progress. All generated electricity will supply the refinery, one of the Baltic States’ largest industrial energy consumers. The 36 million (~$42.38 million) investment was partly financed by the EU Modernisation Fund, with 2.5 million (~$2.9 million) allocated, and operations are planned to start in 2026.Earlier this year, ORLEN’s renewable capacity was boosted by a 120 MW portfolio acquisition, linking with the company’s ongoing expansion at the Mažeikiai refinery.
