Canopy Power Australia a renewable energy engineering and solutions provider and Ocean Sun announced a partnership to introduce a new generation of floating solar solutions. The technology, patented by Ocean Sun, included a circular membrane-based floater with a 70m diameter. High-efficiency solar panels were installed on the membrane, providing 700 kWp of PV capacity. Integrated pumps on the floater harvested millions of litres of rainwater annually. The floating rings could be adjusted in size to provide the required solar PV capacity and rainwater harvesting. Canopy Power designed and deployed floating solar microgrid solutions, integrating battery storage, rooftop or ground-mounted solar PV, and wind energy when required. The solution aimed to address land scarcity by freeing land for other uses, water scarcity by reducing evaporation and harvesting rainwater, and water quality by reducing algae blooms. It also aimed to accelerate energy transition with quick installation and maintenance. Water companies, farms, energy firms, and hydrogen production facilities were expected to benefit from this combined electricity and water solution.
