The Energy Commission of Nigeria had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with China Energy Engineering Corporation Ltd and the Nigerian Governors’ Forum. The agreement supports fast-track renewable energy development and ongoing power sector reforms across the country. The MoU includes support for state-level energy planning, expansion of energy resource utilization, particularly through solar, wind, hydro-electric solutions and the development of green energy infrastructure. The partnership aims to boost technological innovation and human capacity development in the renewable energy space. The agreement supports power sector reforms aligned with the 2023 Electricity Act. The key feature is to establish the Nigeria-China Renewable Energy Research Centre to drive innovation and capacity building.
