Mitsui & Co., Ltd., a Tokyo-headquartered trading and investment company, has signed a virtual power purchase agreement with NIKE Japan Group, LLC. Mitsui’s wholly owned subsidiary, Mitsui & Co. Project Solutions, Ltd., has supported the execution of the agreement. The VPPA covers 18 MW of solar capacity sourced from 16 domestic solar power plants located within the TEPCO Power Grid area. The portfolio includes 3 MW of new solar projects and 15 MW of recently established projects. Under the structure of the agreement, Non-FIT (Feed-in Tariff) Non-Fossil Certificates representing the environmental value of renewable electricity are transacted without delivering physical power. This arrangement enables NIKE Japan to source 100% of the electricity used at its owned and operated facilities, including distribution centers, retail stores, and offices across Japan.
