UAE’s clean energy provider, Masdar and Indonesia’s PT PLN (Persero) has signed two agreements during President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to the UAE. The first was a MoU to develop a floating solar plant at Jatigede Dam in West Java. The second agreement was planned to assess the potential expansion of the 145 MW (AC) Cirata Floating Photovoltaic Power Plant, which entered operation in November 2023. Development of the Jatigede plant is expected to commence in 2025 and with completion targeted for 2027. These agreements followed regulatory changes permitting greater water surface use for solar power. Cirata currently powers 50,000 homes and offsets 214,000 tons of CO₂ annually. Indonesia, with over 600 reservoirs and 17,000 islands, was seen as having favorable conditions for floating solar development. The agreements between Masdar and PLN followed Masdar’s recent acquisition of a 49.99% stake in Spain’s EGPE Solar 2 project from Enel.
