Iraq & Masdar push forward 1 GW solar expansion

Iraq and Masdar held talks to speed up 1 GW solar projects in Maysan, Dhi Qar, and Anbar, focusing on finalising PPAs and solving project issues.

Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, held a virtual meeting with Iraq’s Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, to accelerate 1 GW solar projects in Maysan, Dhi Qar, and Anbar. The talks addressed finalising the PPA and resolving implementation issues, according to Shafaq News citing the ministry. In March 2025, Iraq started building its largest solar plant, the 1 GW Basra Sun, by TotalEnergies and QatarEnergy. Iraq aimed for a 20-25% renewable energy share in its electricity mix by 2030.
