LONGi Green Energy Technology, a Xi’an-based manufacturer of PV products, has settled its global patent disputes with Shanghai-headquartered Jinko Solar. The two companies have signed a cross-licensing agreement that has ended all worldwide litigation and granted access to selected patents. This agreement was concluded when the solar industry was facing oversupply and declining prices that have caused significant financial strain. China’s four largest solar producers were reported to have recorded combined first-half losses exceeding ¥13 billion, about $1.8 billion. According to LONGi, consensus was reached across the sector on limiting destructive rivalry, though implementation measures were still pending. Government authorities have reinforced the anti-involution campaign, which is aimed at reducing harmful competition and improving solar manufacturing quality standards. Jinko Solar and LONGi have stated that the resolution is expected to enhance patent protections and encourage further research investment.
