UK-based Lightsource bp has completed the 187 MW Peacock Solar project in San Patricio County, Texas. It will supply power to Gulf Coast Growth Ventures (GCGV), a joint venture of ExxonMobil and SABIC. This marks the first utility-scale solar installation powering an ExxonMobil-operated facility. The project is expected to generate over 360,000 MWh of electricity annually, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 256,000 metric tons per year. During construction, it created over 300 jobs and will provide $25 million in tax revenue over 25 years. The site integrates agricultural and biodiversity initiatives, such as native vegetation planting, sheep grazing, and pollinator habitat improvement. The solar farm uses ultra-low carbon panels from First Solar and trackers from GameChange Solar.
