Dubai-based Iwa Green Energy signed a $300 million agreement with Mauritania to develop a 60 MW hybrid solar-wind project. The facility, scheduled for completion in September 2026, aimed to raise the country’s installed capacity of 450 MW. The project was implemented under the Desert to Power initiative’s Independent Power Producer Joint Protocol, supported by the African Development Bank. With less than 10 percent of rural households connected to electricity, the government set a target of achieving 70 percent renewable generation by 2030. Officials said the fully private financing model would help expand power supply without adding to public debt.
