British food retailer Iceland Foods has partnered with Shawton Energy to install rooftop solar systems across UK stores. The project plans to add up to 10 MW of solar power which is enough to power about 3,000 homes. It could cut 2,500 tons of CO2 emissions each year. The first systems were installed at Penny Lane in Liverpool (88 kW) and Queensferry (115 kW), together saving over 40,000 kg of CO2 each year. Future installations are planned for Coventry, Doncaster, Dover, Leicester, and other sites. Shawton Energy is handling the design, funding, and long-term management under a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), allowing Iceland to access solar energy without upfront investment. Iceland operatesnearly 1,000 stores across the UK, including 200 larger-format Food Warehouse locations launched in 2014.
