The Government of Guyana has launched a Grid-tied and Net-Billing Programme to expand renewable energy use and lower emissions. The initiative allows homes and businesses to install solar panels and reduce electricity costs. It is led by Guyana Power and Light (GPL) and the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) and applies nationwide. The programme supports targets outlined in the LCDS 2030 plan. Grid-tied systems connect solar panels to GPL’s network, sending excess energy to the grid. Customers earn credits for extra energy, which are saved inan Energy Credits Bank to offset future bills. Formal agreements are signed with GPL. Installations must meet all safety standards, and larger systems require further technical assessments.
