Serbia-based Fortis Energy has secured a construction permit for a major solar and storage project in Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia. The facility is designed to include a 270 MW photovoltaic plant combined with a 72 MWh battery system and has a grid connection permit for 180 MW(AC). It is planned south of the Sava River, near the village of Drenovac. The permitting stage was completed after detailed technical and environmental reviews and continuous dialogue with local authorities. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026. Once operational, the project is expected to rank among the largest solar and storage facilities in Southeast Europe. Fortis Energy currently has more than 2.5 GW in development and is targeting 1.2 GW installed capacity by 2027.
