Endesa, through its subsidiary Enel Green Power España, has opened the El Matorral solar plant in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Gran Canaria. The €12.1 million (~$ 14.1 million) project, was supported by a €5.6 million (~$ 6.1 million) grant from the IDAE under the EU’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, includes an 8.25 MW solar system and a 4.2 MW lithium-ion battery. It was the first hybrid solar plant in Spain to use grid-forming inverter technology, enhancing grid stability and energy storage efficiency. The project also introduced Spain’s first large-scale dry solar panel cleaning robot. The construction involved over 30 workers and training programs for local residents. The plant was expected to generate 16.17 GWh annually by avoiding around 1,870 tons of CO₂ emissions.
